Scott Campbell

Currently Master Screen Printer at Glasgow Print Studio, Scott Campbell studied Printed Textiles at Glasgow School of Art (1985-1989) and completed a Post Graduate in Printmaking at Central St Martins, London in 1996. Campbell has worked with artists such as Elizabeth Blackadder, Scott Myles, Martin Boyce and Richard Wright in the creation of ambitious projects. He has also worked with many respected internationally acclaimed artists in the production of artworks: Patrick Caulfield, Howard Hodgkin, Julian Opie, and Michael-Craig Martin to name a few. Campbell has taught printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art and has also editioned for the Royal Academy, DCA and the Modern Institute. Campbell has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and in the USA.

Campbell works almost exclusively in the screen printing medium to create abstract and colour field works. Campbell's in-depth understanding of colour, layering, the interplay of textures and mark making within screen printing are evident in all of his works. Campbell uses screen print to innovate; he pushes the physical boundaries of the process and relies on instinct and experience to explore what can be achieved. Campbell has an almost obsessive involvement with the screen printing process, colour, transparency and surface; having printed for over fifteen years, Campbell's work evolves with no matrix, but with multi-layered surfaces blended to allow light and form to develop. The unpredictability of blending dictates how he approaches each piece. Campbell strives to make each piece individual and perfect.
